The ACT exam consists of subject areas including math, English, science, reading, and writing. The English section consists of the most questions, 75 total, with a time frame of just 45 minutes. This consists mainly of usage, mechanics, and rhetorical skills. In contrast, the math section has fewer questions (60) but more time to complete them (60 minutes). The math material covered includes algebra, geometry, and trigonometry. The reading portion consists of only 40 questions, which must be answered in a 35-minute time frame. Focus areas include social studies, natural sciences, literary narrative, and humanities. The science portion also includes 40 questions in a 35-minute interval. The subject material testing includes analysis, experimental results, and conflicting viewpoints. Finally, there is an optional writing section which is scored separately and is worth a total of 12 points. You will be given a total of 40 minutes to formulate an essay which tests your skills in detail, logic, and language.
