CSM examinations are set to take place in several cities around the world this year. The test is open to all to business and manufacturing professionals that wish to obtain Scrum Master Certification. Certified Scrum Masters will be qualified to take on key management roles in a variety of business, manufacturing, and industrial settings.
Requirements for taking the CSM exam
The sole prerequisite to taking the CSM exam is attendance to a two-day course at a certified scrum training institution. An in-person program, it provides a broad overview of the Scrum framework and methodologies, along with instruction in scrum roles and events, and the agile software development framework. The course also provides attendees with real-world case studies and exercises and provides them with the opportunity to take part in relevant discussions.
After completion of the Scrum training course, attendees will be eligible to take the Scrum Master Certification examination. Attendees will also automatically become members of the Scrum Alliance for two years. Members of the Scrum Alliance will have access to exclusive scrum-related resources and materials.
CSM exam coverage
The CSM exam consists of 35 multiple-choice questions. Examinees will have to answer 60% or 24 of these questions to pass the test and become a certified Scrum Masters.
Unlike the Scrum Master training course–in which personal attendance is a requirement–the CSM examination is an online test. Applicants will have to take the test within 90 days after the scrum training course. Applicants may take the test as many as two times at no cost. However, subsequent examinations will entail a nominal fee.
After unsuccessful attempts at the test, applicants will be able to view the questions that they did not answer correctly. However, they will not be privy to the answers to these questions.
How to register for the CSM exam
To register for the Scrum training course, interested applicants will have to determine the availability of courses in their area. Information on course availability in specific cities is available at the Scrum Alliance website.
After taking the Scrum training course, attendees will receive a welcome email that contains a link to their Scrum Alliance account. After activating their account, applicants will be able to take the CSM test.
To take the test, applicants will have to sign in at the Scrum Alliance website using their log-in credentials. This information is in the welcome email sent to candidates that have previously completed the training course.
After logging in, applicants can find the link to the CSM test in the Certification Dashboard in the “Settings” menu. From there, they will be able to choose their preferred language.
Applicants are requested to turn off pop-up blocking apps and plugins before taking the exam. Among the supported browsers are Google Chrome, Firefox, and Safari. Internet Explorer will not work with the test. Applicants are also discouraged from using the back and forward buttons of their browsers while taking the exam. They may instead use the onscreen buttons provided for navigating through the different sections of the test.
